As part of today’s Lunch & Learn session, Vimal walked us through the basic testing concepts & then discussed the importance of Automation Testing and the popular tools used. Software testing is a process used to identify the correctness, completeness, and quality of developed computer software. Testing is an integral part of any successful software. We unleashed a lot of testing concepts in today’s session.
Importance of Automation in Testing & Tools used
Testing as we know is executing a system in order to identify any gaps, errors, or missing requirements in contrary to the actual requirements. A testing team works in identifying such gaps and there are 2 broad classifications – manual & automated – of testing.
Manual testing as the name suggests the test cases are executed by human without any support of tools/scripts. Automated testing, on the other hand, would employ software/tools to handle test cases. Both has its own advantages & disadvantages and they have deployed appropriately where one offers best results.
There are specific testing methods like black box testing, white box testing, integration testing, system testing, performance testing, and load testing etc. Manual testing better suits some of these methods while others might require Automated testing for better results.
Selenium Automation Testing for Web Applications
Vimal took us through the test execution, basic testing principles, and importance of Automation Testing. We had a brief overview of the popular automation tool Selenium, a portable software-testing framework for web applications. Selenium is a tool that can be used for authoring tests without the need to learn any test scripting language.
